“A man who flatters his neighbor
Spreads a net for his feet.” – Proverbs 29:5

Reading this today caused me to stop and consider times where I can be guilty of “stroking egos”. While I do authentically appreciate and desire to encourage, other times I can drift into insecurity, wanting to be praised myself or know that I am valuable to the person I am praising.

Stopping to check my motivation is probably the best approach – why do I want to encourage this person? Is it because I’m trying to invest, or just trade compliments?
